Still Life – In Chapters | Sara Silks

posted in: Uncategorized

Continuing my studies of fragility, vulnerability, and determination, I am making short visual narratives using constructed still life work.

As a response to the world we live in, these images allude to the

consequences of urban planning, migration, and overpopulation.

The symbols I use are those of aviary species, with strong historical metaphors for nature, nurture, adaptation, and survival.

Chapter One: Determination of the Species

Small vignettes produced to illustrate the hopeful efforts of the aviary species to survive, despite loss and hardship.

Palladium prints on Bergger COT 320 with gum pigment.

Chapter Two: Studies of Civilizations

Abstracted still life images produced to conceptualize future civilizations, plutonomies, and the intersection of monuments and nature.

BIO:

“My work investigates concepts of fragility, vulnerability, and determination. I use darkroom printing processes, large and small format photography, and digital tools in my work. Using alternative and historical photographic processes, along with my drawing and printmaking background gives me the latitude to make my work intrinsically personal”    ~ Sara Silks
