Chad Schneider | At Night

posted in: Documentary, Landscape

I began photographing at night a few years ago without any real intentions. It was simply the only time I had available most days to take my camera for long walks.

On my wandering night walks I often think about the absence of people in my viewfinder, which is a change for me and my earlier, more peopled photography; empty office buildings, parking lots, construction sites, strip malls. All these vacant places full of human energy during business hours, hours I spend at a desk and isolated, drew me in. I now go where the people aren’t. Where melancholy and mystery work hand-in-hand. Where I can immerse myself in a dark tableaux, shaped by the utilitarian lights of the city.
